Saturday, 05 April 2025

Description

REEI is excited to invite you to our upcoming event, the XXXVI György Ránki Hungarian Studies Conference, a Symposium and Concert In Memoriam Béla Bartók (1881-1945), in partnership with our colleagues at the Hungarian Studies Program at the Department of Central Eurasian Studies, the Jacobs School of Music, the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center, and the Department of Musicology.

This event is a celebration of the Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist, and pianist Béla Bartók on the eightieth anniversary of his death, with an interdisciplinary symposium, for which László Vikárius (Bartók Archives Budapest; HUN-REN Institute of Musicology) will present the keynote lecture and an international cohort of speakers will discuss Bartók’s music and cultural milieu. The concert of Béla Bartók’s music will feature Mark KaplanPacifica Quartet, and Tien-Er Shih performing Bartók’s Mikrokosmos, Solo Violin Sonata, and String Quartet No. 4.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 5th, with the conference in Ford-Crawford Hall in the Simon Center from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the concert in Auer Hall in the Simon Center at 8:00 pm. Additionally, both the conference and the concert will be available via LIVE@jacobs>!
